Six tools, in the order you reach for them.

I built these to be useful to me, and they turned out to be worth leaving out here. No account, no uploads. Two of them are already running further down the page.

Story Generator

Short-film prompts you can actually shoot, filtered by tone, cast size and budget. Every brief gets a share link keyed to its own text, so one you send stays pointing at the same idea however the library grows.

Spark a honest film.

Golden Hour Helper

Sunrise, sunset, civil twilight, both golden windows, solar noon, azimuth, elevation and a colour-temperature estimate, for any date and any location. Drag the slider and the sun moves; the maths runs in your browser, so it never waits on a network.

Weather

Live wind, gusts, temperature and visibility for Metro Detroit, with a conservative go / no-go read: compensation at 12 mph steady or 14 mph gusts, grounded at 18. The animated scene behind it reads the same numbers, so the picture and the advice can never disagree.

Drone

The route into drone and FPV without wasting money on the wrong first aircraft: simulate before you buy, follow pilots worth learning from, build the kit in order, then sit Part 107. Written for the person who has not started yet.

Aspect Ratio Previewer

Lay Scope, Flat, HD, Academy and Vertical mattes over a still, or over your own photos and clips, and get the exact active pixel resolution instead of guessing at letterbox edges in a timeline. Files are read in browser memory: nothing is uploaded.

LaB Assistant

Ask the notebook a question and search answers first: film notes, the resource list, the gear entries, dated events and hand-written field notes. Every factual answer keeps its source, and following a citation walks you to the exact film or item of kit.

The terms

Such as they are

All six are free and none of them want anything from you. There is no account to make, no email to hand over and no trial that expires. Saved kits, prompts and checklist progress live in your own browser under localStorage, which also means clearing your site data clears them: that is the trade for never holding your work on a server.

Two of these read a live weather model from Open-Meteo, without an API key and without sending anything about you. The Aspect Ratio Previewer parses your own photos and clips locally through URL.createObjectURL(), so a frame you drop in never crosses the network. If you want the longer version of how any of it works, it is written up on the colophon, and what changed most recently is on What’s New.
